Million Pound Match Up Tour!!!

Hello all,
I just wanted to say that today was a blast and a boost of confidence! I enjoyed my trip up to Tempe. We met Hollie and Bill from season 4 and Betty Sue from season 5! They are such an inspiration to me, and Hollie is from the town I live in!!!!
I really don't have to much to blog about today and I'm am so freaking tired!  I didn't get much sleep last night and have been running all day. It is also my daughter, Victoria's birthday! She is now 5!!!!! So we had her little party today!
I did eat a "SMALL" piece of cake, but couldn't eat all of it cause it was to sweet!!!!

I will update just as soon as I can! My official weigh in is Wednesday, but will be going in on Tuesday this week where we have other things to do!

Best of Luck,

Updates....general!

Hi everyone!!!
I just want to let everyone know that me, my husband and kids, along with my mother and father-in-law are heading to Tempe, AZ tomorrow to meet with Hollie and Bill from season 4! I'm sooooo excited!! Hollie is from where I live, in Coolidge Arizona!!! Though she has relocated a few times, but nonetheless, it's still exciting to meet someone like her and me knowing that she is a native to Coolidge!!! Betty~Sue and Ali are from Mesa, which is just a few miles out from Tempe!!!
I'm hoping that I have a loss this week! I've been working really hard to get in my workouts and my eating habits are getting ALOT better!!! I don't even crave the sweet things now! I keep the Special K bars on hand for a snack and that is plenty sweet for me. The blueberry is a little to sweet!! I think I will give those to the kids, LOL!!!
I've stopped keeping an actual food journal cause of the diet change. I eat low calorie foods and know that I stay below 1400 calories a day! If I have doubts that I'm not, I'll log my calorie intake fo a day or two. The re has been on day, that I MIGHT have  gone over, and I know why...........I eat a piece of cake.....I know, shame on me, but the rest is still sitting in there about to go down the garbage disposal! It's been made for like 2 weeks now and no one is eating it, so, it's gone!!! What's better than that, hehe....it don't bother me in the least. I don't think of junk food anymore! I look for something like baby carrots or steam me some broccoli! I love veggies anyway! I just need to eat more protiens...I'm not much on meats!
I am going to go and find something to eat. I've not had lunch yet and has been a bit since breakfast! Unitl my next blog, stay healthy!

Weekly update!

Hello all,
I have had a busy busy week, as we have gotten our taxes back and trying to get things caught up!!!! Thankfully, that is all done. One a good note, we were able to get our home gym going. We now have our recumbent bike, a row machine and a weight bench and weights. It's not much, but it's a good start for now. I will post pics of what is in the gym when I get another free mintue.
Now, as far as weight loss, I didn't lose anything this week, which I kinda expected due to us doing alot of running errands and me not being home to workout as much as my body is used to. But, on the bright side of things...NO GAIN!
As for my mother-in-law, I don't know much on her progress this week. Again, we've been busy and I've not had a chance to get in contact with her. Though once I do, I will post her progress or she will log on and post!
Good luck and have fun getting healthy!

I am updating this blog for my mother-in-law.........
She weighed in on Wednesday, just the same as I did and she is still at a stand still. But again, no gain! At least she is maintaining the weight she has lost. I guess it could always be worse. I will be updating more and posting pics of the gym very very soon, but first I must do a workout! I am shooting for 2 workouts a day so I can continue my weight loss journey with a big number next week! Or so I'm hoping. I'll be happy even if it's just a pound or two, but more than 3 would be GREAT!!!!! LOL!

My Reward~Crystal

Hello all,
I just wanted to say that for me meeting my goal of 10 lbs for January, I rewarded myself. No, I didn't have something sweet or ate more than I should have. I got something to help me even more with my journey to good health. I went to the store and got me some resistance tubes to help with strenght training and toning. I got excited and I hope all of you are doing well in your journey!!!

Weigh In

Hello again,
I said that I would be back to log my weight and to my unbelievable suprise I lost 5 pounds this week, or a percetage of 2.2%....That is just freaking awesome! I was only expecting  1 or 2 pounds, but I'm happy and have officially met my 10 goal for January, so I've upped it to 15 pounds instead of 10. That's saying 2 pounds per week with 2 weeks being left! I feel great and hope everyone is happy with your results!!!!

Update for Crystal

Hello all,
Sorry that it's been a few days since my last update, but things have been busy. I'm doing really good with the calories and keeping them under control. I don't think that I've exceeded 1400 since I've started this with my mother-in-law. We did go to their house Friday and ate dinner and I did have a baked potato, but no other starches. Just a steak and salad. I'd also have to say it was pretty good.
I will be going in for my weigh in tomorrow. I'm kinda nervious, but am just hoping at this point that I've not gained. I don't think so, but with me and my stupid body, it's hard telling.
As far as the workouts, been getting better at them, but I still have alot more to improve on. I rode my bike for 30 minutes this evening and viewed one of my workout DVD's while I did that so I can start doing those again. I had done them before and it made a huge difference without watching what I ate. So lets see what kind of results we can get now!
I hope everyone is doing well with their goals and I will be back tomorrow to put in my weight!!!
Keep doing what works!!!Smile

Crystal's daily update

Hello all,
I just wanted to give my update for today. I had a cheat day if you will, though I'm still not going to go over my 1400 calories. I had some mac&cheese and fries for lunch. I try to stay away from the breads, pastas, but I am needing to go to the store to get more healthy stuff, so I ate what was here, though I still have about 300 calories til I meet my 1200 mark. I rode my bike for 1 hour today and plan on getting back on once I eat some broccoli. I love broccoli and with only 30 calories per serving, that makes it even better. LOL!
I am undecided whether or not I want to weigh myself tomorrow. My husband has a drs. appt. at 1:45 and I always go with him, just because, and don't know what to do. Kinda scary.
I have noticed that a pair of pants that I couldn't wear 2 months ago are getting rather big. I don't know what I've lost, but know that something is leaving. I have noticed that I've been a bit more tired in these last few days, and am wondering if it's not where my body is used to all the fats and excessive calories that I no longer get. My mental state is a bit better I do think. I don't feel as grumpy and on edge as before. Let's just continue to get healthy and see how I feel in another day/week/month.

Crystal's Daily update

Today has felt really good though I've not workouted much. I noticed this morning when I got dressed that my shirts are getting really loose! :) That makes me feel good. I am still having problems getting my calorie intake up. I tend to only eat between 800 and 1000 calories. I don't want to start eating things that's not good for me. I've not felt like this in a while. I do have a cup of hot chocolate every once in a while, but that's only about 50 calories per cup the way I fix it. (I don't like a strong taste of chocolate) Yesterday I finially got my calorie intake up to 1280, but had to eat, it felt like alot to get there.
I plan on watching a movie and riding my bike while watching it. Time flies by doing it like that. Until my next update.

Hi, Marilyn here

I just got my self weighed and I am happy with every ounce that I lost. I know that to lose one pound I must cut out 3500 calories. This fact keeps it in prospective for me. I hope everyone has better luck with getting a blog going than me. I am not anywhere near a computer whiz. My daughter-in-law and I are persistant though, so we will keep improving our site as we go along. I will talk later. Bye.

update and goals

I am wanting to update on what my day was like. I don't think that I've met my 1200 calorie goal today, but am hoping to by the time I go to bed. I tend to go to be late. I also did some workouts today, though not as much as I normally would do. I have been tired these last few days and to be honest, I've not wanted to do anything. The weigh in for me for week 1 was amazing. I was hoping for 2 or 3 pounds and I got 6. I think where I've started drinking more water and eating less salt, I lost alot of water weight, but nonetheless, weight. Week 2 is another story. I don't expect the same results, with my goal being set at 2 or 3 pounds, just like last week. If I go over, that's great, but I still don't expect it. I am still trying to get adjusted to a new lifestyle and a new way of eating. I cook one thing for my husband and kids and I have to prepare something completely different.
I am hoping that Marilyn and I can start getting together once a week for a walk and discuss our progress together. We are in this together and I will support her in every way that I can. She has found out that she is glucose intolerant and with that, she's got my support even more. I have family that has diabetes and I can understand why it is even more important to her now. These types of things are why I'm getting my life and health in order. With most of my family obese, it's up to my generation to get things right! I can only think of one or two that don't have a weight problem, but they have other issues, like drinking. So in one way or another, they will end up killing themselves. I'm not going to let myself get to that point. My husband and I quit smoking to help our health, now it's my turn with the weight. I think that this will be my turning point for my future! Until next time,

About Marilyn

I was born and raised in the midwest. I didn't have a weight problem as a child, but as we all know, things change. I live in Arizona with my husband now. I started working out and walking alot in December 2007. I started with a weight of 198.6 and want to get to 145 lbs. I found out today that I am glucose intolerant so I need even more to change my lifestyle for life. I weighted 187.2 at my doctor visit today, so I have lost 10.4 lbs. so far.

About Crystal

Hello again,
This is Crystal. I had seen where my mother-in-law had posted a blog telling her story of her weight gain, and as horrid as it is, I know she will do well in this! She is a strong woman and we will come out ahead, even if it's just for our health.
I am posting this blog to tell a little about me. I am a stay at home mother of 3 wonderful children, and thus having been where I gained some of my weight. I've always been a "touch" heavy, if you will, but after having my son and gaining 89 pounds, I had managed to drop all of it, and then just a few days, and litterly just that, days later, I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter. My weight when I went to my first doctors appt. with her I was at 199 pounds. I had gained about 15 pounds in 8 weeks. I got back down to 175 pounds prior to the 1st visit. I had her and the insision got infected from the section. I had gained then. I was approx. 240 pounds, where I am now. I couldn't hardly move for about 4 months with having a "HUGE" hole in my lower stomach. It was healed enough by 6 months that I started doing workouts at home via DVD's. I had dropped 27 pounds and 27 3/4 inches in about a month. I don't expect those results here. I just think I got lucky there. At this time we were living in Indiana, where we are all from, orginally, and I had to go back to work when my daughter was 7 months old. I had slowly lost from working, and got back down to 209 and that is where it stopped for me. We moved to MO to be with my family and with my depression getting worse, I started binge eating. I tended to eat 1 pint of Ben and Jerry's "EVERY" night. I had gained 19 pounds doing that in about 4 months. Then I decided it was time for me to be where I belonged and moved out here. With that move came a few more pounds, but not many. I had dropped and gained a few times ad settled at about 227. I was found to be bi-polar and was put on depakote and that made me gain some, but I kept it in control thereafter. In Sept. of last year me and my family moved back to IN so I could be closer to my family. In Oct. I found out that I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. At this point, I was 238 pounds, but in the first 3 months had lost 3 pounds from going back to work. I gained a total of 11.5 pounds with her. (All BABY) After I had her I had dropped all the "baby" weight by 3 weeks, even after a section. Then I got back on my bi-polar medication. Depakote, gained back 7 pounds in 3 weeks, putting me back to 237. And that is about where I've been since. I don't want my kids growing up thinking it's okay to eat whatever you want, whenever. That's not healthy, and though it's hard for me to buy the right foods, I am. It's time for me to start living for my kids and for me. I plan on sticking around to see them have my grandkids.
Best of Luck from me to you on this Journey! Long and Hard, I'm going in feet first!

This is a little about my struggle with my weight

Hello to all from sunny Arizona!
I am very excited to be a part of the Million Pound Challenge. In 2002 I wasn't  overweight. I weighed in at 143 lbs. On Nov 24, 2002 I had just left my hairdressers salon and made it less than One Mile when I was hit from behind by a Semi Dump truck owned by a business in Seymour, IN. when I was stopped at a redlight in Scottsburg, Indiana. The driver was wearing sunglasses and talking on his cell phone at the time of the wreck. I was in a small Ford Escort station wagon, which is a front-wheel drive and my gas pedal or brakes didn't work when my front end was a good foot off of the ground. The driver ( James Ponder) said that he didn't even see me due to his bug shield. His loaded down semi hit me 3 times before I got out of my car and walked around to the side of his vehicle and ask him what the was doing? He asked me to wait a minute till he got off of the phone. I have not heard anything from him since. I received damage to the extent that I received bulging discs and ruptured discs at C-3, C-4, C-5, C-6, and C-7 due to this. I had to adjust my whole life due to this wreck. I spent 4 years, 10 months, and two weeks taking lots of very expensive ability limiting prescriptions and having lots of time to set on the couch due to the fact that I had such a large amount of nerve damage to my cervical spine that I literally couldn't even pull weeds or grass out of my flower garden that I love without extreme pain and I didn't even have the ability to turn my head at all. I gained alot of weight and felt useless. On May 15, 2007 I had a procedure done that burned the nerves at the spine and killed the nerve endings. I spent the first several weeks after the surgery crying with the pain and then the pain started to lessen. I then had the ability to turn my head. Once I could do this I started to pop and crack at my neck so loud that anyone could hear it from across the room. I am ready to regain my life again and hope to be among the finalists together with my daughter-in-law Crystal, or even the Winners of this!

Update ONE!

This is our first update since starting the page yesterday. Marilyn went to the doctors today and found that she had dropped a little over a pound. I went in to weigh in and found, to my suprise, that I dropped 6 pounds, putting me down to 233 pounds. My mother-in-law has been working on her weight loss since Dec. 22, 2007 and I am glad to say that she has dropped a 11 pounds. Her starting weight on Dec. 22 was 198.6 pounds.
We will continue to do our best and will be posting more later.

Starting Out

 Hello all,
This is me and my mother-in-laws space for the Million Pound Match Up. We are here to get healthy and live better lives. Our long term goal is the same weight of 145 pounds. My starting weight is 239 pounds. I will let her do her own blog and let her anounce her weight. I have set a goal for this month of losing 10 pounds. I will start my official weigh ins tomorrow and record my loss. (hopefully) We have been watching our calories and what we eat. I personally, ride my stationary bike alot. I also do some stomach crunches and resistance training. That is what I have that I can work with right now. I started on Jan. 3rd and have been keeping a journal on my PC that I have recorded my workouts and calorie intake in.
My calorie intake daily goal is no more than 1400, though I try to stay around 1200. I eat alot of tuna, reduced fat wheat crackers, cottage cheese (also a good protein), Lean Pockets (but remember that 1 is a serving, NOT 2). I try to limit my breads and starches.

Goals:
Overall
Crystal~age 26~overall goal is 145 pounds
goal for the match up is 35 pounds
Marilyn~age 50~overall goal is 145 pounds

Crystal's starting weight is: 239 pounds as of Jan. 2, 2008
1st short term goal is 10 pounds by Jan 26th. (or one dress size)
